Treating Health Holistically

An alternative history of ideas

Acupuncture has been part of Chinese healthcare for up to 5,000 years. It has a written history of 2,500 years, making it one of the most tried and tested systems of medicine available. Acupuncture has stood the test of time, promoting and restoring health throughout China, the Orient and now all over the world.

Holism is a core principle of Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the insertion of fine needles along the surface of the body stimulating individual acupuncture points. By clinical practice, over thousands of years, the Chinese believe that certain acupuncture points, when stimulated, have a specific physiological effect on mind and body, influencing a natural healing response. Peter practises Traditional Chinese Acupuncture, not to be confused with Western 'dry needling' techniques, as practised by some physiotherapists, doctors or osteopaths, which are learned on short, weekend courses.

Oriental acupuncture has a different history of ideas to that of Western medical culture. It looks at health and disease differently to Western medicine. Therefore, a person receiving acupuncture is being treated within a truly alternative methodology to that of conventional Western medicine. If a person's health problems are not resolved by conventional medicine, an alternative exploration into that person's disease, using methods crafted over thousands of years by the Chinese, often provides an answer, especially for problems which are not given a specific Western diagnosis.
